A recent snap from holiday this year where I visited Israel and the lowest point in the world, The Dead Sea!

Famous for its high salt content and ability to make people float, I can honestly say it was one of the best an weirdest experience ever! It was so surreal that when you lifted your feet off the rocky bed you just floated instantly!

However, I can also honestly say that getting salt in both eyes did not only blind me, but stung very much and my cousin has to try and guide me back to the shore and then across the hot beach to our towels, whilst she had salt in one eye! It was a very funny moment!

Anyway, I certainly recommend visiting Israel overall! :)

Louis Theroux

I watched two episodes of Louis Theroux weird weekends today. I love the way Louis makes himself to appear vulnerable to the people he is interviewing, making them think that they have the power in order to get the information required.

South Africa

This episode was about the Boer men who believe it is best to run the country by seperating the blacks and the whites in to two seperate countries. It was quite weird watching it because when the documentary was filmed it was roughly about 7years after the apartheid ended so a multi-cultral society was quite a new thing in South Africa.

I found the Boer men to be quite delusional, claiming that the Boer men’s ideology weren’t based on race, but yet no Blacks were allowed to ever belong to the Boer men group, which the main man, Eugène Terre’Blanche heavily emphasised in an angry and patronising way towards Louis. The irony in this, is that the Boer men are technically made up of different cultures as their ancestors are a mixture of Dutch, British, German and French, but yet they can unite and mix because they are “Afrikaans’s” and are from Europe, supporting the evidence that they do not see past skin colour.

One woman stated that she enjoyed listening to the likes of Whitney Houston and Lionel Richie but yet she would not invite them in to her home, and proudly declared herself as a racist due to her religion. In my opinion, it is very hypocritical and disrespectful to listen to their music and message but she will not mix with them socially due to skin colour.

Overall, due to the Boer men being raised during the South African apartheid, their parents politics of “non-whites” would have influenced them greatly and they would know nothing else, however, South Africa is now a multi-cultral society and these people should let go of the past, and look towards the future of building a unite society and it is not an excuse for racism, as religion isn’t either. Furthermore, I found the documentary as a whole insightful and entertaining.

About

Well seeing as though you’ll be reading about my life,...

About

Well seeing as though you’ll be reading about my life, I’ll first introduce myself.

I’m Maddyson, 19 and study Human Geography at University.

Human Geography? It covers many topics. Politics, Boundaries, Population Trends, Health Dilemmas, Sustainability and many more things. I particularly like the study of the developing world from all aspects. I hope too one day help people who less fortunate than myself, whether it be in the slums of India, the war struck Somalia, or on my own doorstep.

I have previously done volunteer work in Ghana, and I long to go back! The people in the village of Ekumfi Atakwa are so inspirational, they are my Heroes!

I also dance.

I love music. Rock and Indie mainly.

I have started my own vinyl collection.

And that is all. Thanks for reading.
